Music Enrollment
Got Music?
Students with musical interest are encouraged to build music into their high school curriculum. Many course offerings are available as well as participation in after school ensembles. There are numerous benefits to maintaining music study as part of a comprehensive academic program. Talk to your band Director or Guidance Counselor about making room for music in your academic calendar or as part of your extracurricular activities. |
Marching Band
CHS marching band and is on pace for a 2016 season that is sure to be one for the record books! Mr. Michalec has been working hard planning our 2016 show and has assembled the creative coaching team to include Mr. Welsh, Ms. Rose, Ms. Laci, Mr. Joel, and Ms. Danielle. This team has worked with our students in the past and their talents and efforts are of epic proportions!
The students will be aggressively learning the music and show over the summer with a series of special session practices and Band Camp (see below). We are registered to participate in the Tournament of Bands circuit as a 1A Open band again for the 2016 season.
While our coaches and students begin their preparations, there is much to do behind the scenes! Parent volunteers will be needed to assist with our stage and set, motor pool, costumes and uniform management, feeding and hydrating our kids, and other related duties! Hosting the TOB on 10/1/16 will require all hands on deck as this is a huge undertaking. Please join us for our first parent meeting to be held Tuesday, June 14th in the band room at 6pm for information and expectations for the 2016 season. Parent support is critical to a successful program and although the thought of 'getting involved' is typically following by a collective groan by parents, a little help by many gets the job done. In the end, you may just be surprised at how much you enjoy it!
Band Camp
Band camp and summer rehearsals are the key to kicking off a successful season. Mr. Michalec has posted the summer 2016 schedule of events which will include incremental summer practice sessions and a very intense week of 'band camp' in early August followed by regular rehearsals throughout August until the school year commences. Participation in August band camp and practices is critical for all participating students. Effective the first day of school, the regular school year rehearsal schedule will be followed.
Student participation is mandatory, however, we do understand that families do take summer vacation! If there have been previously scheduled summer plans , please alert Mr. Michalec to be excused.
